PS5 Over Heating Heatsink Issue.

 

Virgin (warranty seal untouched) PS5 BDM-010.

Looks like we have the electro plating corroding and pitting on the heatsink.

That is a hole in the electroplating.

The rest is extremely rough and will fail soon making the console over heat more and more

 

 

This is what the surface “should” look like for this model of PS5.

Replacing it with this brand new 2nd hand heatsink, what a difference!

This is just an observation. I’ve see some uneven surfaces on PS5’s over the years but 9/10 once clean they are fine and clean up good. This one on the other hand was different. With significant pitting that Liquid Metal cannot operate efficiently.

 

Liquid Metal requires two extremely flat surfaces to cool correctly. It fills in the microscopic pits and valleys on the heatsink and APU die surface, remember “microscopic” you need a electron microscope to see them.

 

It also relies on capillary action to circulate the Liquid Metal keeping the two flat surfaces filled with Liquid Metal creating that bridge for heat transfer.

 

I’m sure there are people out there who will make this out to be bigger than it is or it’s the worst thing to scare customers or views on socials ect…
